The three tomorrows of the agri-food system: a futures studies reflection to recreate research agendas in family farming

Abstract
Agri-food systems are the subject of foresight analysis from different research and policy design centers at the global level. This article proposes to investigate approaches to the possible futures of agrifood systems, as an input for recreating and rethinking a research agenda for family or small-scale agriculture in Argentina. The proposal is to propose a dialogue between the perspectives of future studies and agri-food studies in order to nourish the research agenda and to exercise and disseminate an anticipatory view in research on family and small-scale agriculture.
Analytically, the work is based on the ‘three tomorrows’ method developed by Sardar and Sweeney (2016), authors of the critical future studies approach. The methodology includes the systematization of studies on agri-food and family farming futures, and the implementation of workshops with researchers specializing in these subjects. From the application of the frameworks of this method it is possible to visualize what knowledge about possible futures is produced by research, which are the unthinkable fields and how these can contribute to recreating an agenda on family farming in the country.
