Abstract

The incorporation of the gender perspective in agricultural public policies has focused on territorial interventions over institutional dynamics. This article analyzes gender homophily and heterophily in researchers and rural extension agents of four Agricultural Experimental Stations of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology. 160 surveys were conducted. The results show a predominance of homophilic relationships, which is reinforced in the case of frequent and very frequent ones. In addition, the proportion of homophilic ties is higher in men, while heterophilic ties predominate in women. Personal affinity is more frequent in homophilic relationships, while joint projects are more frequent in heterophilic ones. The findings invite us to think about gender issues within rural development institutions and to make visible the role of gender as a modulator of the research-extension linkage.
